The Sunday Standard: Unwavering – Standing Firm in a Shifting World
Share
Monday morning, May 4, 2026. The clock on my desk just ticked past 10:30 AM here in New York, and I’m sitting here with a heart that feels both full and a little bit heavy. Do you ever have those moments where you look at the world around you, the headlines, the social media feeds, the constant "breaking news", and you feel like you’re standing on a boat in the middle of a storm? Everything is moving. Everything is shifting. One day the world loves one thing, and by the next afternoon, that same thing is "canceled" or forgotten.
It’s exhausting, isn’t it? Trying to keep up with the pace of a culture that changes its mind more often than I change my shoes.
But that’s exactly why we’re here today. In our FOCUS Movement, we talk a lot about what it means to live a life with intention. We break down that acronym because each letter holds a piece of the puzzle for how we navigate this wild journey called life. Today, I want to lean into the "U."
U is for Unwavering.
When I think about being unwavering, I don’t think about being stubborn or closed-minded. I think about being rooted. I think about a tree that has spent years sending its roots deep into the earth so that when the wind howls, it might bend, but it certainly won't break.
The Shifting Sands vs. The Solid Rock
We live in a "hype" culture. Everything is about the next big thing, the loudest voice, or the flashiest trend. We see it in fashion, we see it in politics, and unfortunately, we even see it in how people approach their spirituality. It’s all about the buzz. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned on this walk, it’s that hype has no shelf life. It’s a firework, bright for a second, then it’s just smoke and silence.
That’s where our theme of Holiness over Hype comes in.

Choosing holiness, choosing to be set apart and unwavering in your values, isn't always popular. In fact, it’s often the opposite of what the "trending" tab tells you to do. To be unwavering means you’ve decided that your foundation isn't built on public opinion or the latest viral moment. It’s built on something much older and much stronger.
As we look at the power of faith from a biblical perspective, we see that the heroes we admire weren't the ones who went with the flow. They were the ones who stood their ground when the current was pulling everyone else away.
What Does It Mean to Stand Firm?
I’ll be the first to admit: standing firm is hard. There are days when I feel the pressure to compromise my peace just to fit in or to stay "relevant." We all feel it. But I’ve found that the more I try to please the world, the more I lose myself.
To be unwavering is to have a "Holy 'No'."
- No to the drama.
- No to the negativity.
- No to the idea that I have to change who I am to be valued.
Instead, we say "Yes" to the things that last. We say yes to kindness, yes to integrity, and yes to a faith that doesn't blink when things get uncomfortable. This is the heart of what we call Living FOCUS. It’s about keeping your eyes on the prize and your feet on the path, regardless of how many distractions try to pull you to the left or the right.

Visibility as a Tool: The Power of the I-Shirt
One of the reasons I started creating our I-Shirts was because I realized that sometimes, we need a reminder: not just for ourselves, but for the people we pass in the grocery store or the gym. Our I-Products aren't just about looking good; they are tools for visibility.
When you wear something that proclaims a message of faith or an unwavering spirit, you’re making a quiet declaration to the world. You’re saying, "I know who I am, and I know Whose I am." In a world that is constantly trying to blur the lines, wearing your values can be a powerful way to stay anchored. It’s a conversation starter. It’s a way to find your tribe.
I’ve had people stop me and ask, "What does FOCUS mean to you?" or "Where did you get that shirt?" and suddenly, a simple piece of apparel has opened the door for a meaningful connection. That’s the FOCUS Movement in action. It’s not just a brand; it’s a lifestyle of being bold and unashamed of the light we carry.
Come Walk With Me
I don’t want you to think I have this all figured out. Believe me, some days my "unwavering" feels more like "wobbling." But that’s the beauty of doing this together. I want to invite you into this space: not as a spectator, but as a partner. Come walk with me.
Let’s walk through the seasons where the ground feels shaky. Let’s walk through the moments where we feel like the only ones standing up for what’s right. When we walk together, we realize we aren't as alone as the enemy wants us to think. We are a community of people who are tired of the "hype" and hungry for the "holy."

Standing firm is easier when you have a cloud of witnesses surrounding you. Whether it’s through reading these inspirational thoughts or connecting with us on social media, find your people. Find the ones who encourage your roots to grow deeper, not the ones who try to pull you up by them.
Inner Discipline: The Secret Sauce
You might be wondering, "How do I actually stay unwavering when my life feels like a circus?" It comes down to inner discipline. It’s the small, daily choices that no one sees that create the strength everyone notices.
It’s the five minutes of prayer before you check your emails.
It’s choosing to speak life when you really want to vent.
It’s the serenity, courage, and wisdom to know what you can change and what you need to leave in God’s hands.

Think of that little sprout breaking through the soil. It doesn't look like much at first, but it is incredibly disciplined. It moves toward the light, day after day, until it becomes something that can withstand a storm. Your faith is the same way. Every time you choose the Word over the world, you’re adding a layer of strength to your spirit.
A Legacy in Motion
We often talk about the Sunday Standard because Sundays represent a reset. It’s a day to realign our focus before the work week tries to scatter it. But being unwavering isn't a "Sunday-only" job. It’s a Monday-at-10:24-AM job. It’s a Thursday-afternoon-when-you’re-tired job.
The FOCUS Movement is a legacy in motion. It’s about building something that our children and their children can look at and say, "They didn't bow. They didn't break. They stayed unwavering."
In this shifting world, you have a choice. You can be like the dust that the wind blows away, or you can be the rock that the waves crash against in vain. I choose the rock. I choose the "U" in FOCUS.
Moving Forward Together
As we wrap up today’s reflection, I want to leave you with a challenge. Look at your life this week. Where are you feeling "wavy"? Where are the areas where you’ve let the hype of the world dictate your mood or your choices?
Take a deep breath. Re-anchor yourself. Maybe put on one of your favorite I-Shirts as a physical reminder to stand tall. And remember, you don’t have to do it perfectly. You just have to stay committed to the journey.
Thank you for being part of this movement. Thank you for choosing holiness over hype. I am so grateful to have you on this path with me.
If you need a little more encouragement today, feel free to browse through our photo blog or catch up on previous Sunday Standard posts. There is so much goodness waiting for you.
Stay focused. Stay unwavering. And most importantly, stay you.
Blessings,
Yolanda Newell
