The Sunday Standard: Formation over Fashion

Hey family, it’s Yolanda here.

It is Thursday, February 26th, and as I sit here looking at the calendar, my heart is beating a little faster than usual. We are just a few days away from March 1st. For many, it’s just another Sunday. For us at FOCUS-I-APPAREL, it marks the beginning of something much deeper than a new collection or a seasonal sale. It marks the launch of The Sunday Standard.

I’ve been thinking a lot about why we do what we do. I’ve spent years in the world of apparel, but if I’m being completely honest with you: and I always want to be: I’m tired of "fashion." I’m tired of the fast-paced, "look-at-me," trend-driven cycle that leaves us feeling empty once the fabric starts to fade.

That’s why I’m inviting you into a new space. A space where we value Formation over Fashion. This isn't just a catchy slogan for an I-Shirt; it’s a shift in our collective soul. As we prepare for this journey, I want to say: come walk with me. Let’s explore what it means to move from simply making a profession of faith to becoming a true reflection of Christ.

It’s a Standard, Not Just a Brand

For a long time, people have asked me about the "FOCUS brand." I always smile, but lately, I’ve been correcting that language. FOCUS is a Standard. It’s a way of living that is visible, disciplined, and entirely Christ-centered. When we talk about our FOCUS collection, we aren't just talking about high-quality cotton and screen printing. We are talking about Inspirational Apparel for the Soul.

The world doesn't need another clothing brand. The world needs believers who are willing to stand for something. We are calling believers into a life that is "set apart." It’s easy to wear the message; it’s a lot harder to be the message.

In the book of Romans, we are told, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind" (Romans 12:2). Transformation is the goal. Formation is the process. Fashion is just the medium we use to start the conversation.

NOT FASHION – FORMATION

Let’s talk about that word: Formation.

In the apparel industry, fashion is about what’s on the outside. It’s about the silhouette, the color palette, and the "fit." But spiritual formation is about what is happening on the inside. It’s the slow, intentional work of the Holy Spirit shaping our character to look like Jesus.

When you put on one of our I-Shirts, I want it to be a reminder of the discipline required to follow Him. We aren't interested in just looking the part. We want to be formed by His Word. This is why we focus so heavily on the power of faith from a biblical perspective. Faith isn't a fashion accessory; it is the foundation of our formation.

Formation requires discipline. It requires us to wake up and choose His will over our own, every single day. It’s about the habits we form when no one is watching. It’s about the way we treat our neighbors, the way we handle our finances, and the way we guard our hearts. Fashion changes with the seasons, but formation is a lifelong journey.

NOT HYPE – HOLINESS

We live in a culture of hype. Everything is "the biggest," "the best," or "the most exclusive." In the world of streetwear and E-commerce, hype is the fuel that drives sales. But hype is exhausting. It’s a high that always leads to a crash.

At FOCUS-I-APPAREL, we are trading hype for Holiness.

Holiness isn't a word we hear much in casual conversation anymore. It sounds stiff or outdated to some. But holiness is actually beautiful. It means to be "set apart" for God’s purposes. It means that our lives have a specific fragrance: the fragrance of Christ.

When we design our I-Products, we aren't chasing the latest "drop" culture. We are seeking to create tools that inspire a holy life. We want our community to be known not for how "cool" they look, but for how "consecrated" they are. Holiness isn't about being perfect; it’s about being positioned toward God. It’s about saying, "Lord, I am Yours."

NOT TREND – TRUTH

Trends are fickle. One day everyone is wearing oversized hoodies, the next day it’s something else. If you build your identity on trends, you’ll constantly be reinventing yourself to stay relevant.

But Truth? Truth is eternal.

The Sunday Standard is built on the Truth of the Gospel. As we move forward with this series, we will be diving deep into the Word. We won't shy away from the hard stuff. We’ll talk about the journey of life and the reality that following Christ isn't always easy, but it is always worth it.

Our mission is to ensure that every piece of apparel we produce is anchored in Truth. Whether it’s a shirt that quotes Scripture or a design that evokes a biblical principle, the goal is to point people back to the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We are moving from the "Profession" of our faith: the things we say: to the "Reflection" of His glory.

From Profession to Reflection

There is a big difference between professing Christ and reflecting Him.

Most of us are good at the profession part. we can quote the verses, we can wear the "Inspirational Thoughts" on our sleeves, and we can show up on Sunday. But reflection is about what people see when they look at us in the "in-between" moments.

Does your life reflect His peace when things are chaotic?
Does your character reflect His integrity when no one is looking?
Does your heart reflect His love when you are dealing with difficult people?

This is the heart of The Sunday Standard. Starting March 1st, we are going to challenge each other to be mirrors. A mirror doesn't have its own light; it simply reflects the light that is shining on it. When we spend time in His presence, we can't help but reflect His image.

Come Walk With Me

I don't claim to have it all figured out. I am a work in progress, just like you. I’m still learning what it means to truly prioritize formation over fashion. I still have days where I care too much about what people think and not enough about what God says.

But that’s why I love the FOCUS movement. It’s a shared journey. When I say "come walk with me," I mean it. I want us to grow together. I want us to use our I-Products as conversation starters, not just for others, but for ourselves.

Every time you see the FOCUS logo, let it be a prompt:

  • Faithful
  • Obedient
  • Christ-Like
  • Unwavering
  • Steadfast

This isn't just about what we wear on Sundays. It’s about the standard we set for our lives every single day of the week.

What to Expect from The Sunday Standard

Starting this Sunday, and every Sunday following, we will be sharing content that digs into these themes. We’ll have guest posts, deep dives into Scripture, and practical tips on how to live a disciplined, Christ-centered life.

We’ll explore topics like:

  • The discipline of prayer and how it forms our inner man.
  • How to stand for Truth in a world that embraces "relative" truth.
  • The beauty of holiness in our daily interactions.
  • Stories from our community about their own "Formation" journeys.

We aren't just selling clothes; we are building a community of believers who are serious about their faith. We are creating a space where we can encourage one another to keep our FOCUS on what truly matters.

A Direct Call to the Visible Life

The world is watching us. They are looking to see if our lives match our "I-Shirts." They want to know if the "Inspirational Apparel for the Soul" we wear actually changes the soul inside.

It’s time for us to step up. It’s time to embrace the discipline. It’s time to move past the hype and the trends and settle into the transformative power of the Holy Spirit.

Formation is often quiet. It’s often slow. It doesn't always make for a "viral" moment, but it makes for a solid life. As we launch this new series, I hope you’ll join us with an open heart. Let’s be a people who are more concerned with being formed into the likeness of Christ than we are with being fashionable in the eyes of the world.

Thank you for being part of this family. Thank you for supporting FOCUS-I-APPAREL. But more than that, thank you for being willing to walk this path with me.

March 1st is just the beginning. The standard is being set.

Will you walk with me?

Stay focused,

Yolanda Newell
